Shade, Harlind L
Madison-Harlind L Shade, age 69, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Agrace HospiceCare with his family by his side. He was born on March 4, 1947, the son of Albert and Genevieve (Haase) Shade in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He married JoAnn Linster on Dec. 26, 1968 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Berthold, N.D. He served in the U.S. Air Force at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota. He worked at Gisholt Foundry, Windsor Homes, Parts Now, and also did home improvements over the years. Harlind enjoyed fishing, woodworking and specialty fishing rods. He also loved spending time with family, friends, and especially his grandchildren. Harlind is survived by his wife JoAnn; his son, Harley Shade; daughter, Lisa (Larry) Gunther; granddaughter, Kaylie Shade; grandson, Liam Gunther;;two sisters, Glenda Walker, and Caryl Shade; two brothers, Jan (Chris) Shade, and Ralph Shade; and three sisters-in-law, Maxine Shade, Beth Shade and Linda Linster Johnson and several nieces and nephews. Harlind was preceded in death by brothers, Brian Shade, and Al Shade; parents; two nephews Eric Shade and Corey Walker. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr. Madison, at 1 p.m. on Thursday Feb. 9, 2017with Chaplain Steve Zwettler presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Thurs. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

My thoughts of comfort to family and friends. I did not know Harlind well, yet will always carry a treasured memory of him from high school (Central University High School Class of 1966). In our junior or senior year Harlind and another classmate, Karen Arnold, asked me to accompany them on the piano for a singing performance as part of an entertainment in the auditorium. I readily agreed and it went well. They chose a duet from the musical "West Side Story". I can remember snatches of lyric and melody but not the title of the song. They had wonderful voices which reached the entire audience. Keep singing on your journey, Harlind!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Harlind's family - so very sorry for your loss. Our families were friends growing up, and Harlind and I were youth group friends and music mates. He was a good man, even then. He will be fondly remembered by the Lansdowne clan.
