MADISON- Carl R. Pigott, age 73, passed away peacefully on Feb. 3, 2017, at Agrace HospiceCare in the presence of family. Carl was born on June 22, 1943, in Pittsburgh to Florence and Willis Pigott Sr. He graduated from Kent High School in Ohio, where he was an accomplished high school athlete in basketball and track, matching up in basketball against such notables as Bobby Knight and Jerry Lucas. Carl came to Madison after the U.S. Air Force stationed him at Truax Field. At that time, he also worked part time at Sears. A co-worker arranged a blind date with Betty Wick, who he went on to marry on June 11, 1966. Following a tour of duty in Thailand, during the Vietnam War, Carl returned to Madison and earned an engineering degree from UW-Madison. Soon thereafter Betty and Carl started a family. Carl's career arced from manufacturing management for General Motors, Rayovac, and Amtelco, to owning a small family business. In April 1999, Betty and Carl purchased Pigwick Papers dba Bob's Copy Shop. Carl will be remembered for his attention to detail, leadership, and great stories about traveling. It brought him a lot of joy to take road trips with Betty throughout Wisconsin, attend plays in Madison and Milwaukee, and to get the family together for special occasions. Carl took great pride in being a great father and grandfather. Carl is survived by his sons, Andrew (Aida) Pigott of Chicago, and Mark (Amy) Pigott of McFarland; his beloved grandchildren, Katelyn, and Maxwell; and his loyal canine companion, Gilly. Also mourning is his sister, Marge Huheey of St. Louis; nieces, Debbie Kotva of St. Louis, Christina Pigott of Toledo; and nephew, Brian Pigott of Indianapolis, along with their families. Carl was preceded in death by his wife; parents; infant son, Matthew Pigott; and nephew, Bill Huheey. The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg for their compassionate and loving care of Carl during his final days. A memorial gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m., with military honors at 3:30 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017. I am saddened by the news of Carl`s passing. I first met him and Betty at First United Methodist Church 15 or so years ago. Since then I have been a regular customer of his at Pigwick Papers. He and other members of the church were instrumental in helping me start my business. He gave good advice and encouragement. His business created business cards, banners, signs, & other marketing materials for my company and, in fact, is the only company to have done and continue to do so now. May he rest in peace. Dear Pigott family--I met Carl and Betty through my volunteer work with Madison Civics Club and the Madison Trust for Historic Preservation. They were especially generous to MCC, where Betty served on the board for many years, giving the club good prices on printing, paper and mailing, and donating a large banner in honor of MCC's 100th anniversary. It was my pleasure to go over and say hello to Carl and Betty at MCC luncheons because they were both so authentically nice. Carl was a very special customer that I supported over many years while working for different companies. I will miss him and his direct honesty, which is in short supply these days. Carl's dedication to his wife Betty and family, along with his dedication to quality and hard work ethic, were inspirational to me as well. The world was a better place because of a Carl.
