Obituary
MADISON/RANDOLPH-Donald Lloyd "Don" Hughes, age 75, of Madison, left his earthly home and entered into his Heavenly home on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017. He was born on Aug. 22, 1941, in Columbus. He married Marlene Kok on Aug. 10, 1961, in Randolph. Don received his bachelor's degree from UW Oshkosh. He was a Chemist at Covance from 1963 until 2006. Don was a humble man with a servant's heart. He was a member of Crossroads Church, where he served in many ways, such as an Elder, Deacon and Bible Study Leader. Don also served as President for East Camp Gideons International. He loved to garden, crochet, play cribbage and spend time with his family in California. Don "Heepa" loved being involved in the lives of his grandchildren. Whatever interested them, interested him. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Don taught his children and grandchildren that their lives needed to be centered around Jesus Christ. Don is survived by his wife, Marlene; daughters, Lisa (Doug) Westenbroek, Lori (Kirk) Stuewe and Debbie Hughes; grandchildren, Adam (Breanna) Westenbroek, Rachael (Brandon) Fast, Chad Westenbroek, Melanie Stuewe and Brendan Hughes; great-grandchild to be, Baby Westenbroek; siblings, Barb (Bill) Wilder, Judy (Ed) Bergauer and Dale (Becky) Hughes; and his mother, Doris Hughes. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Shauna Stuewe, age 14, in 2006. Funeral services will be held at CROSSROADS CHURCH, 3815 S. Dutch Mill Rd, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, with Pastor Doug Van Essen presiding. Burial will be at Friesland Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shauna Ann Stuewe Foundation, P.O. I can not think of my cousin Don without hearing his laugh. It was unique and made all want to laugh. He truly had a sense of humor and humility. If you knew him, you could not help to see a Godly example of what a husband's role should be. He leaves a hole in our family here but there is rejoicing in Heaven.

A gifted man with a wonderful heart, not only did he start our Pesticide Residue department, he also served as a beloved mentor, inspiring many of the scientists who subsequently came to our company.
