Lorraine A Thompson

RACINE/ MADISON-Lorraine Anne Thompson, age 89, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at Badger Prairie Health Care Center in Madison. She was born on April 7, 1927, to Rev. Paul and Anna Nelson in Miami, Fla. Lorriane grew up in Indiana and Miami. She graduated from Miami High School in 1945, and later received a B.A. degree in Sociology from Augustana College, Rock Island, Ill in 1950. Lorraine worked at a number of locations in Chicago after her graduation. On Jan. 28, 1956, she married Robert Thompson and later, they moved to Racine, Wis. Lorraine devoted herself to her husband, her children, and her church. She loved music and served as a church organist on occasion. Lorraine was as passionate about education as she was of her own children. She served as secretary at Evangelical United Methodist Church for many years. In her later years, she moved to Madison. Lorraine is survived by her children, Mark (Nan) Thompson, Fitchburg, Wis., Ruth (Charles) Marchese, Tampa Fla., Laurel Voellmecke, Bethany, Okla, Paul (Jana) Thompson, Rochester, Minn., and Charles (Laura) Thompson, Rosendale, Wis. She is further survived by grandchildren, Christine (Lee) Gorlin, Alan Thompson, Natalja Voellmecke, Kristen Marchese, Kim Thompson, Erica Thompson, Andrew Thompson, Eric Thompson, and Rachel Thompson; and her sisters Ruth Duran and Lois (Ted) Bellefeuille. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Thompson; her son, John Thompson; and grandson, Peter Marchese.
