MONONA-Jose O. Asturias, age 82, went into eternal rest on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on Dec. 24, 1934, in Guatemala City, Guatemala. Jose was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Risgaard on Nov. 27, 1959. They have two sons, John (Betsy) Asturias and their children, Joseph, Jennifer and Megan, and James Asturias, all of Minnesota. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017. A lunch will be served after the service. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Jose's name to Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

John and Jim I am sorry for your loss. My mom passed last night too. You guys were like family. I remember taking a road trip with you to the Dells and your head was out of my sun roof and we were all singing. John you walked me to school every day. Miss you guys. Love always, Kim Reed-Jackson

Jose was my coach when I stated in 3rd grade '73 and for 4 more years. john is my same age. I still remember thick accent (at the time) and his enthusiasm. I think he coached my son in law.

In the fall of 2009, Jose was inducted into the Madison Area Soccer Hall of Fame. He will be missed by the soccer community.

Jose was a great man and my father figure growing up in Monona. He taught me how to snow ski, water ski , golf and of course soccer . He was a selfless man always donating his time to teach and grow the sport of soccer in our community. .RIP JOSE ! I'm so sorry for your loss John, Jim and Margaret.

Jose had a profound impact on me as an athlete and later as a grown man. I never worked harder for a coach, his glowing passion for the game was contagious and instantly you loved and respected him. He wrote an article in the community local newspaper my last year saying farewell to the seniors, his message really was touching and has always been a treasured moment I like to reflect upon. This man coached the right way! His influence on the game and his teachings to the youth will have a never-ending impact as those of us fortunate to learn his teachings will pass along to the next generation and so forth.
