CROSS PLAINS-Beth A. Berge, age 59, of Cross Plains, passed away at home on Saturday, Jan.14, 2017, of an apparent heart attack. She was the daughter of Martin and Mary Parrell. She married Robert Berge in 1990. Beth graduated from Wisconsin Heights in Black Earth with the Class of 1975. She was a very loving and giving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. Beth worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs in IT for over 20 years, and most recently for the Village of Black Earth. She was very detail oriented and thorough in all documentation. Beth loved doing genealogy, and was the family historian. She enjoyed searching for antiques, sewing, quilting, baking, reading, and playing games of Phase 10 and Scrabble. Beth loved photography and making quilts, which she donated to Project Linus. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where she sang in the church choir. Beth is survived by her husband; mother; daughters, Blair (Tony) Nelson and Paige Berge; granddaughter, Lydia Nelson; sisters, Kathy (Jim) Haack, Donna (Carl) Ketelboeter, Pat (Mark) Sonnenberg and Carol (Gary) Hollfelder; brothers, Bob (Donna) Parrell, Mark (Bonnie) Parrell, John (Janet) Parrell, Wayne (Audrey) Parrell, Joe (Donna) Parrell, Mike (Jenny) Parrell, Marty (Janet Jo) Parrell and Brian (Lisa) Parrell; sister-in-law, Diana L. Van Slyke; and many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father; brother-in-law, John Van Slyke; sister-in-law, Judith Beck; and father-in-law, Harold Berge; and mother-in-law, Gladys Berge. Funeral services will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St, Cross Plains., at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017. Visitation will be held at the church from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. I had the great pleasure of being Beth's hygienist for many years! You learn so much about a person during those routine visits, not just tooth related but also about that person and their family! During one of those visits, I learned that Beth loved to quilt............Well..........many years ago I started a patriotic wall hanging quilt project which I struggled and struggled with and eventually gave up on, put it all in a bag and threw it in a closet.........I forgot about it for probably 10 years....... Two years ago as I was cleaning out closets in preparation for a move, I came across the bag of quilt pieces and material. I brought it to work and at Beth's next dental appointment I unloaded the bag of frustrating quilt pieces onto Beth in hopes that she had a use for it or that she could repurpose it. I totally forgot about it. Three months later at Beth's next dental appointment, she walked in and handed me a bag......in it was the finished patriotic wall hanging, ready to be hung on the wall....it was BEAUTIFUL❗❗❗She brought me to tears😢 What a kind thing for her to do. I will cherish my many memories of Beth and that quilt always. My heart aches for your sweet family. RIP .....You will be so missed❤Jayne

I had the honor to work with Beth at DVA. She started working at DVA when she was pregnant with Blair. She was a great co-worker and friend. She made several baby quilts for employees. She would bring in patterns and we would all help her decide which one she should make. I was also a recipient of several quilted items which I will cherish. She was so talented and crafty.
Beth loved talking about her family, the trips her sisters and mother went on and her new grand baby, Lydia . Working with Beth for 20+ years I felt like I knew her entire family (which is a lot of people). We had so many, many conversations, I will miss her.

I am so sorry for your family's loss. I remember Beth from when I was a kid, going to hang out with all of the kids, sometimes walking from our farmette down to the Parrell family farm, or riding bikes, or whatever. I loved hanging out with such a large family. You all have my deepest sympathies and you are in my heart.
