Phuong Bloedorn

DEFOREST - After five years of struggling with Alzheimer’s, which she described as “my wandering spirit”, at age 86, the spirit of Phuong T. Bloedorn, maiden name Trương Thị Phượng, left her at 5:40 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, in Madison, Wis. Phuong was born on Oct. 10, 1932, in Lai Thành, Ninh Bình, Việt Nam to Trương Văn Thịnh (father) and Phạm Thị Thoa (mother). Her childhood was brief and her school years were cut short to care for her younger siblings and to assist with farming. As a mother she worked for the survival of her children and took over the breadwinner role, as needed during difficult times. As a friend, she was respected for honesty. As a retiree, she was financially independent, wishing only for her children to visit her. She was active and independent. She was fair, expected nothing taken from her and took nothing from others. She remembered people who were kind to her in trying moments and spoke of them, even after offenses, with a tender voice and memory in her eyes. She did not pray for herself but prayed to God so she could take care of her children. Phuong is survived by her six children; eight grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. A memorial gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019.
