Charles Roger Rodefeld

COTTAGE GROVE/MADISON/PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA-Charles Roger Rodefeld, age 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a courageous and lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at Columbia Health Care Center. He was born on Jan. 28, 1936, in Madison, the son of Henry and Gertrude (Halverson) Rodefeld. Charles served in the U. S. Army from 1955 to 1958 during the Korean War. He married Phyllis Gehrke on April 9, 1960. Charles worked as a Security Officer for Meriter Hospital, as well as in construction for both Findorff and Hallmark. He was a member of the Free Mason Shriners, Doric Lodge, Moose Lodge, and VFW Post 7591. Charles volunteered more than 1000 hours at the VA Hospital in Madison as well as countless hours with the Shriners, participating in many parades. He was a lifelong member of Hope Lutheran Church and a member of Door Creek Church which was built on the Rodefeld Century Farm. He spent many hours volunteering at both. Charles is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Phyllis; his children, Christine (Douglas) Horstmeyer, Cynthia (James) Armour, Charlene (Brett) Sime, and Troy Rodefeld; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Donald. Funeral services will be held at DOOR CREEK CHURCH, 6602 Dominion Dr., Madison, (corner of Sprecher Rd. and Dominion Dr.) at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, with Rev. Cal Steiner presiding. Charles' final resting place will be at Hope Cemetery next to his parents and brother. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday Jan. 5, 2017 and at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
