Obituary

MADISON-Audrey I. Badeau, age 97, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, in Madison. Audrey was born Feb. 1, 1919, near Mazomanie, daughter of Frank and Flora Hawley. She lived most of her life in Madison and Monona. Audrey remained very active well into her 90's, enjoying activities at Oakwood Village East including baking cookies, playing cards, teaching line dancing and watching the Packers with her friends. Audrey was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, L.K. (Bud) Badeau who had been a city alderman representing the East side. She and her husband loved playing golf, dancing, and traveling, especially in the American West where they wintered in Tucson for 20 years. They were active in the East Side Club for many years. Audrey is survived by her two sons, Robert (Patricia) of the Town of Pleasant Springs, Wis. and Steven (Jim McConville) of Palm Springs, Calif.; two grandchildren, Meaghan(Dan) Paczosa of Woodbury, Minn. and Benjamin of Waterloo, Wis.; and three great-grandchildren, Lucy, Mary and Ruby. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and five older siblings, Claude, Marjory, Marion, Gladys and Doris. A celebration will be held at OAKWOOD EAST, SETTLER'S RIDGE, 5815 American Parkway, Madison, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Badeau family during this difficult time. I had the privilege of working for the family business and have always appreciated the examples they set and the kindness shown to me. Dick Hemberger

Audrey and Bud were among the first neighbors we met when we moved to Tonyawatha Tr.. We always remember how welcoming they were and the many good times and conversations we shared as neighbors. They were always so proud of Bob's family and water skiing and the house that Steve designed. We enjoyed a lot of sunsets with them. Our thoughts are with the family. Griff and Jan Dorschel

I have many fond memories of Audrey and Bud Badeau from my childhood. To this day I tell about how great they were as sponsors of my little league team back in the fifties. I remember how they took us all to see the Milwaukee Braves play in 1957 and 1958. To see those great players was an unforgettable experience for a young boy. I also remember being taken to games in their new 1958 Impala convertible. I loved that car so much I ended up buying one exactly like it while I was in high school. These may seem like very simple memories, but they have stayed with me my entire life. Bob Briggs
