MCFARLAND - Fred Landon Decker, age 94, of McFarland, passed away on Monday, Nov. 23, 2020, in his home with family by his side. He was born on June 7, 1926, in Spring Green, Wis., the son of Fred and Eva (Landon) Decker.
Fred graduated from Wausau High School in Wausau, Wis. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He graduated from the UW-Madison on the GI Bill. Fred was united in marriage to Janet Edgar on June 20, 1952, in Wausau.
Initially he worked as a CPA for Sherman Williams, then for several accounting firms, Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation and retired from Raltech at the age of 54. Fred was a lifetime member of Madison Area Optimist Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family at the family cottage in Hazelhurst, Wis., and traveling both nationally and internationally. Fred was a longtime and active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. For many years, Fred and Janet were involved with the Madison Friends of International Students through the university. Over the years they hosted over 40 foreign exchange students, and in their retirement often visited them while traveling.
Fred is survived by his brother, Richard B. (Janice) Decker of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, Rick (Laurie) Decker of Deerfield, Wis., and Fred Daniel (Marie Claire) Decker of McFarland; two daughters, Diane (Dan) Doll of Florence, Wis., and Sandy (Josef) Pelc of McFarland; 12 grandchildren, Kirsten (Ben) Pankow, Matt (Bow) Decker, Dana (Erika) Doll, Dionne (Jim) Lombardi, Desiree (Eric) Windell, Devon (Justin) Korff, Brianna, Brett and Jeanette Decker, Benjamin (Stephanie) Pelc, Noah Pelc, Nathan (Carly) Pelc; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janet Edgar Decker; and his parents.
A memorial service will be held at ST. LUKE'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 4011 Major Ave, Madison, at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted in Fred's name to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Madison East Optimist Club or Agrace HospiceCare.

My husband was one of the 40 international students welcomed into the Decker family. I was his fiancée & was included by Fred & Jan. We always felt as if we had extra parents & our children who followed had extra grandparents. Fred & Jan were full of loving kindness & good advice when we needed it. hello to the Decker family, please accept our deepest condolences. We have the fondest memories of many years spending Thanksgiving at Uncle Fred and Auntie Jan's place and how welcoming they were to our parents who were young foreign immigrants in the US with no family here. Their open arms and open hearts have always been an inspiration to us , they gave us so much in just kindness and love. Also, the cabin was a magical place where I learned to waterski! we caught crayfish and left them for the raccoons (probably not thrilling the grown ups!) ; I remember how Uncle Fred made pancakes for breakfast there. we will really miss him a lot. love from Sobhan King

Sandy and family, peace and grace to you all. I'll miss Fred's warmth, kindness and wonderful sense of humor at St. Luke's every Sunday. Fred was truly a generous man and companion to many, who will continue to be greatly missed.
