Shirley A. Pointer

Shirley A. Pointer, 93, of Madison, Wis., and Naples, Fla., passed away July 30, 2021. She was born Sept. 21, 1927, in Green Bay, Wis., to Harry and Gertrude (Pakalske) Behrens. She grew up in Sheboygan, Wis., and graduated from Central High School in 1945. Shirley attended Ripon College where she met her husband, Jack D. Pointer, and then graduated in 1949. They later married at Fort Benning, Ga., in 1951. Shirley began her career as an intern at Madison General Hospital, where she became a certified Medical Technologist. She worked for the Quisling Clinic in Madison while Jack served in the Korean Conflict. She later returned to work at Madison General Hospital until her retirement. Shirley was active in the Madison Metropolitan Women’s Club, and in 1982 served as its president. Shirley and Jack moved to Naples, Fla., in 1986 where they were active in the community for 30 years. Shirley enjoyed craft making and volunteering. She volunteered at North Naples Hospital and the Nearly New consignment store. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Naples. Shirley is survived by her three sons and their spouses, Jack (Patricia) Pointer Jr., Todd (Roberta) Pointer both of Minneapolis, Minn., and James (Patricia) Pointer of Madison; and six grandchildren, Kyle, Brett, Amanda, Eric, Claire (Phil) and Meredith (Andrew). She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. A private family interment is planned at a later date at Sunset Memory Gardens in Madison. Memorials may be sent to: Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E.
