Obituary
MADISON-William F. "Bill" Griffin, age 86, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016 at Oak Park Place. He was born on June 25, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Michael H. Griffin and Bridie (Joyce) Griffin. He married Joyce Johnston on Jan. 28, 1956. Bill worked as a Social Worker and retired as the head of the Department of Health and Human Services for the State of Wisconsin. He was incredibly hardworking, and a devoted husband supporting his six children and caring for Joyce who predeceased him in 1982. Bill then married Nancy Zeller on October 12, 1984. He was a passionate and artistic potter and loved playing the guitar and singing. He was an avid health nut who enjoyed fitness and working out. Bill is survived by his children, Sheila (George) Llanas, Hugh (Linda) Griffin, Michael (Diane) Griffin, Bridget (Randy) Dolfen, Mary Jackson and Tom (Erica) Griffin; two step-children; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and brother, Michael (Judy) Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Joyce Griffin; second wife, Nancy Berg Griffin; and granddaughter, Kiana Griffin. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice. You will be missed by your loved ones. Although you and I never met, I wish to thank you for the wonderful children you raised. In particular, I speak of Bridget, since my team and I are fortunate to be working with her. I can tell you, when I see the warmth in her eyes, I see the warmth of your eyes. ..hard working like her father, but also very caring like her father. We were neighbors and friends of Bill and Nan during the years they lived at The Loraine downtown. Bill was a constructive, warm person with a sunny attitude and we enjoyed his company on many occasions. He was still making pottery, going to the gym and doing yoga when he lived here.
