COTTAGE GROVE - Marian S. “Mar” Dolva, age 97, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. She was born on Feb. 9, 1925, in the Town of Leeds, Wis. The daughter of Albert and Luella (Waldref) Schellhorn, Marian graduated from DeForest High School in 1943. After moving to Madison, she met Marguerite “Marge” (Englesby) Dolva while working at the American Exchange Bank, who introduced Marian to her future husband, Chester “Duke” Dolva. They were married on Oct. 14, 1961. In March of 1963, Duke and Marian’s daughter, Lisa was born.
Family was very important to Marian. She loved spending time with her grandsons, Kyle and Luke. Whether this included watching PBS or professional wrestling, playing cards while waiting for the school bus, or cooking a steak dinner during a sleepover. A highlight each year for Marian was the annual trip to Door County with her husband and family. Marian also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and word searches with the family dachshund, Chester, on her lap.
Marian is survived by her daughter, Lisa Gasser; two grandchildren, Kyle (Brandi) and Luke (Lauren) Gasser; great-granddaughter, Evelyn Marian Ruth Gasser; nieces and nephews, David (Marie) Trussell, Steve Trussell, Pamela (Vern) Johnson and Leslie (Roger) Parr; great-nieces, Laurie (Peter) Nuttleman and Amy (Errin) Keltner; and great-great nieces and nephews, Estelle Nuttleman, Alice Keltner, Eleanor Keltner, Henry Keltner and Samuel Keltner. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Alice Trussell; sister-in-law, Bette Kuenning; brother-in-law, John Kuenning; and nephew, Lee Kuenning.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, with the Rev. Tim Hansen presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
