Michael Harold Gurrie

MADISON/BELOIT-Michael H. Gurrie, age 77, gave up his fight to live on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016, in Madison, following a long illness. He held on long enough to see his team, the Cubs, win the World Series. Michael, known to many as Mick, was born in Melrose Park, Ill., to parents, Gert and Tom Gurrie. He grew up in Fontana on Lake Geneva with his parents and siblings, Tom, Sandra, Terry and Denny. Mike attended Walworth High School, Milton College, and UW-Whitewater. He served our country as a member of the U.S. Army and spent most of his service in Korea during the early 1960s. In the mid-sixties, Mike and a partner ran a popular business on the lake front in Fontana, called the Sportsman Club. After studying real estate he joined Spruce Baldwin and Black Agency as a real estate agent and broker. Mike later joined Allstate Insurance Company where he had a successful 35 year career. Michael loved golf and enjoyed many a spirited game with his friends in Beloit. Mike and Nancy were married in 1966, in Bruce, Wis., and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. At their beloved home on the river in Beloit, they raised their two extraordinary children, Aleisha and Craig. Craig preceded his father in death in 2001. Aleisha and her husband, Mark live in Madison, where they raised Mike's three precious granddaughters, Jordan, Taylor and Cameron. As a child with his parents and siblings, as an adult with his wife and children, and as a retired man, Mike enjoyed vacations on the Gulf of Mexico in Florida. After a private service in Madison, Mike will have a military service at a national cemetery in St. Petersburg, Fla., where he will spend his eternal vacation.
