Billy D. Kanouse

MADISON-Billy D. "Bill" Kanouse, age 88, of Madison, passed away peacefully at Agrace HospiceCare, on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, with his family by his side. He was born on April 1, 1928, in Madison, the son of Wesley W. and Lydian (Steinhauer) Kanouse. Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952 with Company G 179th Infantry Regiment 45th Division. He was very proud to have served with this division and his country. In 1990, Company G started having bi-yearly reunions and Bill and Judy traveled many places throughout the United States for these reunions. Bill had the extreme honor of being able to participate in the Badger Honor Flight in 2014. He was able to enjoy the trip accompanied by his son, Dave, a 20 year U.S. Air Force veteran. Bill worked at Research Products Corp. in Madison as Maintenance Supervisor, retiring after 40 years in 1993. He met and married Judith D. (Nielsen) Olson, along with her children on Feb. 20, 1965, becoming an instant husband and father of four. In 1966, they added another son to the family. Bill truly enjoyed watching any sport and school activities that his kids and grandkids participated in. He enjoyed all Wisconsin sports with his favorites being the Wisconsin Badgers and the Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed golfing with his three sons. Bill and Judy enjoyed many winters in Dunedin, Florida where Bill was able to get his very first and only hole in one! Bill is survived by his wife, Judy of 51 years; children, Diane (Dowayne) Shields, David (Debra) Kanouse, Darci Kanouse, Dennis Kanouse and Jeff (Tami) Kanouse; grandchildren, Jason, Adam, Josh, Alexander, Elizabeth, Samantha and Kiesha; and great-grandchild, Iyona. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Stanley (Laura) Nielsen; and sister-in-law, Betty Kanouse. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wesley "Bud" and Kendall "Kenny"; sister, Melody Wilson; and niece, Claudia Wilson. Funeral services will be held at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1904 Winnebago St., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016, with the Rev. Susan Schneider presiding. Military Rites will be conducted at the church following the service. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., on Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
