Steven James Smith

FITCHBURG/PORTAGE-Steven James Smith, age 58, of Fitchburg, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016. He was born on Sept. 8, 1958, in Portage, the son of George and Twyla (Bushman) Smith. Steve graduated from Portage High School in 1977. He owned and operated Laser Exchange and Oasis Electronic Components, Inc. Steve was a music and sports enthusiast. He enjoyed following the Packers. Steve was also an avid outdoorsman; enjoying boating, camping, and snowboarding. He loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them the most. Steve is survived by his children, Kyle Smith of Milwaukee, Katrina (Tom Keller) Smith of Tucson, Ariz., and Courtney Smith of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Dylan Swisher, Hannah Ruppert, Traeson Keller, Clayton Smith, and Corbin Keller; siblings, Vicki, Daryl, and Neale; the mother of his children, Cheryl (Stafford) Hallcock; and dear friend, Sue Simoneau; and many more family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Greg. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL HOME, 2950 Chapel Valley Rd., Fitchburg, at 12 Noon, on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, with Pastor Jay Perkins presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
