Obituary
STOUGHTON - Phyllis A. Deegan, age 93, of Stoughton, passed away on Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, at Skaalen Nursing and Rehab. She was born on Nov. 22, 1929, in Brooklyn, Wis., the daughter of Keith and Grace (Schultz) Weaver.
Phyllis graduated from Brooklyn High School. She went on to beauty school in Madison. Phyllis was united in marriage to John Deegan on Aug. 15, 1953. She worked for American Family Insurance, but her joy was being a homemaker.
Phyllis was a loving wife, dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She didn’t need to worry about not having her driver’s license; she had 16 wheels instead of four, as she was accompanied by her four daughters everywhere she went.
Phyllis accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a faithful member of Stoughton Baptist Church in 1978. She was also a member of the Birthday Club. Phyllis enjoyed quilting and sewing and decorating cakes and canning. She was very social and loved meeting up with family and friends for outings and eating lunch together.
Phyllis is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Lowell) Hanson, Peggy (David) Bursack, Pamela (Rick) Helstad and Paula (the late, Tim) Davis; grandsons, Matt (Tia) Bursack, Nick (Jenny) Helstad and David (Stacy) Hanson; and granddaughters, Melissa (Geoffrey) Whitaker, Sarah (Caleb) Stormer, Leah (Josh) Rader, Jessica (Bruce) Coursen, Naomi (John) Seid, Angela (Jeremy) Mills, Jennifer (Steve) Heckman and Natalie Erickson; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Keith and Grace; husband, John Deegan; siblings, Elaine Miller, LaVonne (Bob) Syse and Rodney (Betty) Weaver; and son-in-law, Tim Davis.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, with Mark Weiss presiding. Burial will be held at Town of Dunn Burying Ground. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
Memorials may be gifted in Phyllis’ name to Stoughton Baptist Church.
