Marilyn C. Bersing

STOUGHTON - Marilyn Cecelia Bersing, age 91, of Stoughton, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Skaalen Rehabilitation Center. She was born on January 2, 1934, in Lake City, Minn., to William and Hazel (Baker) Counter.

The family moved to Wabasha, Minn., where they lived for several years until 1947 when they all moved to a small community outside of Black River Falls, Wis. Marilyn’s father worked at a creamery as a butter and cheese maker.

Marilyn attended Taylor High School for four years and graduated in 1951. She married her high school sweetheart, Vernon Bersing, on April 15, 1952, at Turner Air Force Base in Albany, Ga. The two were blessed with five children.

Marilyn was employed at the Nazareth House as a CNA, retiring after 30+ years. She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to three card clubs. She loved watching TV, especially Lawrence Welk, listening to her favorite artists Engelbert Humperdinck and the Jersey Boys, and dancing. After the death of her husband, she moved to the Greenspire Apartments where she enjoyed the company of many new friends.

Marilyn is survived by her three daughters, Karen (Curt) Burmeister, Sandra (Wayne) Quam and Gina (Rob) Nordness; two sons, Steven (Randi) Bersing and David Bersing; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; her brother, Ken (Barb) Counter; sister-in-law, Carol Counter; brother-in-law, Harris Bersing; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; her parents, William and Hazel; brothers, Bill and John; and sisters, Maxine, Geri and Kass.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. ANN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 323 N Van Buren St., Stoughton, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, with Father Randy Budnar presiding. Burial will be held at St. Ann Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 N. at Jackson St., Stoughton, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2025, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Skaalen Retirement Services and Agrace HospiceCare for all of their wonderful care and support given to Marilyn and her family.
