Obituary
OREGON- Lois Emerald Wertz, age 89, of Oregon, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on July 26, 1932, in Albert Lee, Minn., the daughter of Frank and Gladys (Farlinger) Anderson.
She was united in marriage to Garrison “Gary” LaVerne Wertz on Feb. 7, 1948, in Iowa. In 1975, Lois began working as an activity director at the Oregon Senior Center, retiring in 2003. She was a volunteer at the Civic Center/Overture Center for over 20 years and a member of the Sports for Active Seniors Travel Group. She was formerly a longtime active member of People’s United Methodist Church.
Lois enjoyed traveling and golf. She will be remembered as a talented quilter, baker and crafts person and for staying active and full of life.
Lois is survived by her daughters, Nona (Dan Dieck) Hagen and Patti (Rick) Gasper; sons, Gary (Gail) Wertz and Brian Wertz, four grandchildren, Kelly Hagen, Teri (Ryan Olsson) Hagen, Keri Williams, and John Larkin; and two great-granddaughters, Xzelia Larkin and Avaleen Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; daughter, Kathy Wertz; parents, Frank and Gladys; and three sisters.
Lois was fortunate to never be alone in her later years. Her son, Brian, moved in to support her for the last 10 years. As well, the Wertz’s are extremely blessed to have had Lois’s youngest daughter, Patti, as Mom’s caregiver in her final months.
A memorial gathering will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park St., Oregon, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, 2022.
