Kenneth Dean Spink

OREGON - Kenneth Dean Spink, age 89, passed away peacefully at home, on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. He had done so much in his life and was always looking for another adventure.  So, let’s see… he enjoyed the boy scouts and found it to be a great opportunity. He worked for Oscar Mayer in various mechanical areas and retired from the Rayovac maintenance department in December of 1997.  Kenneth was a member of the Madison Dive Club, where he would get called to dive into water, to search and recover bodies. In 1985 he thought he would try his luck at the restaurant business, so they opened the K & B Koffee Kup in Marion, Wis. Kenneth enjoyed baking, but this adventure didn’t turn out for him.  After retirement, he went to work for Holiday Inn, shuttling people to and from destinations. He enjoyed meeting new people and helping them make their trip more enjoyable.

In his spare time, Kenneth built a fort in his backyard for his grandkids to play on, complete with a zip line.   He enjoyed helping (watching) the building of a couple of demolition cars in his driveway. Kenneth helped build an ultralight airplane in his garage and test flew it. He loved hunting with family members and friends.  He planted, dug up and ground up horseradish in a blender (all windows need to be open for this project) and was always giving away jars to friends and family.  It was great on grilled hot dogs. Kenneth made great apple squares, apple pies, banana bread and even had the best recipe for peanut brittle. He liked traveling a lot for vacation trying different things like panning for gold, deep sea fishing and parachuting.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Barbara A. (Kittleson (Swenson)) Spink; sister, Nancy (Don) Smith; and brother, John (Paulette) Spink; step-children, Deb (Brian) Franklin, Cindy (Chris ) Spink and Jason (Tricia) Swenson; son-in-law, Fred Printiss; children from his first wife, Gaye, Darrell (Cheryl) Spink and Deann Spink; daughter-in-law, Pam Spink; grandchildren, Paul Spink, Taye (Camille) Spink, Lindsay (Bill) Clements, Melissa (David Bittrick) Huston, Jamie (Chas) Glaser, John R. Spink, Jake Swenson and Lucy Swenson; 11 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Joslyn, Abbey, Madison, Heidi, Violet, Jordan, Elizabeth, Simon, Benjamin and Ever; and one great- great-grandson, Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman Edwin Spink and Anna Elizabeth (Brown) Spink; son, Dean Spink; his step-daughter, Diana Printiss; and his siblings, Elaine Blummer, Robert (Arlene) Spink, Lois (Forrest) Faulkes, Louis (Delana) Spink and Paul (Vicki) Spink.

Please join us for his funeral service and share a memory about Kenny at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of the service on Tuesday. Following the service, we will drive to Roselawn Memorial Park, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona, for the burial and return to the funeral home for a luncheon.
