Obituary

OREGON - Jean Ann (Rozelle) Rydecki was taken to her heavenly home the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022, at Beehive Memory Care Home of Oregon. She was surrounded with love by her husband, Dick, of 55 years, and daughters, Kristin and Catherine.

Jean was born to Raymond and Gwen Rozelle on March 2, 1943, in Sumter, S.C., where her father was stationed in the U.S. Army. She and her mother moved to Wausau, Wis., to live with her grandparents in 1944 when her father’s unit was called to duty in Europe. Jean was the older sister of Kay (Rozelle) Gosewisch. Jean attended grade school in Bowler, Wis., and graduated valedictorian of her class from Athens, Wis., in 1961. She graduated as a registered nurse from Saint Mary’s School of Nursing in Wausau in 1964. She then worked at the University of WI Hospital in the intensive care unit until 1966 when she began working at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Jean met Dick Rydecki in 1966 and they married at Saint James Church in Madison in 1967. They moved to Fitchburg and lived there until 2017 when they moved into Oregon. Jean had two daughters, Kristin Rydecki (Steven) Ching of Portland, Ore., and Catherine (Martin) O’Toole. Her two grandchildren are Grace and Patrick O’Toole of Glencoe, Ill.

Jean was very active in her daughters’ school activities and active member of church for many years. She served as the parish secretary at Holy Mother of Consolation for several years before working as an accountant for Dean Business Office in Madison. Jean loved her flower gardens and tended to them with pride. She also had tremendous artistic talent, making most of her daughters’ and her own clothing, ceramics, cake decorating, painting and drawing. She traveled with her husband across Europe several times. Bus tours were a favorite way to vacation, giving her a chance to visit all 50 States. She also enjoyed Caribbean cruises with Dick and friends. Her favorite Caribbean Island is Aruba. She and Dick moved to the Village of Oregon in 2017. Moving to Beehive Homes of Oregon in January 2022.

Kris, Cathy, and Dick my heart is with you all. There are a handful of parents who were fixtures in my childhood and yours are one of those. I have fond memories of your mom’s soft and kind demeanor. I wasn’t aware of her nursing career, which makes me appreciate her even more. I imagine these late moments in her life were not easy to navigate and yet the loss is still heavy. I’m wrapping you in love and breathing deeply to honor her life well loved and exhaling ease and deep rest for her and all of you.

I will miss Jean greatly at beehive! We would spend time together most afternoons, I'd bring her in my kitchen and give her some towels to fold as she enjoyed talking. Wasn't hard to love her! Be at peace Jean, so thankful to have met you! Kelly Haggerty

I feel very fortunate to have met Kris’s Dear Mother, Mrs. Jean Rydecki through my good friends, Steve and his wife, Kristen Ching and Steve’s mother, Charlene. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Rydecki were in town visiting their daughter, I had the pleasure of meeting both of them as we all went out for dinner at El Gaucho in Portland, Oregon I experienced feeling a very loving relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Rydecki and with Kristin’ s deep love towards them both. And I sincerely l’am praying for the whole family’s loss
