Obituary
OREGON- Joan Nancy Schmitz, age 79, of Oregon, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020. She was born on Oct. 24, 1940, in Madison, the daughter of Lawrence and Virginia (Illgen) Mullarkey.
Joan graduated from Oregon High School. She married Ted Schmitz on Dec. 4, 1972, in Rockford, Ill. Joan worked for Wisconsin Department of Transportation at the Department of Motor Vehicles. She enjoyed bowling in her younger years.
Joan is survived by brother, John Mullarkey, along with several cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Schmitz; parents; and brother, Patrick Mullarkey.
An outdoor visitation will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St. Oregon, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2020. Due to COVID-19 guidelines at this time, only 25 people are allowed out of their vehicles at one time. Social distancing and face masks are required. I am so sorry to see that Joan has passed. Always enjoy waiting on Ted and Joan at Main Tap. Very nice people. May she rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear about Joan's passing. She was my roommate in the early 60's on Midvale Blvd. in Madison. In those days we had a lot of good times together and sometimes went to Rusty's bar where I ended up meeting my husband. I also remember going to Boulder Junction with her and her brother. Over time we ended up losing track of each other, but I thought of her at times and wondered how she was doing. I remember her as a loyal friend and I enjoyed her company very much. My sincere condolences to your family and you are in my thoughts and prayers. I worked with Joan at The Department of Transportation for a few years. We had Christmas Parties every year and so I also got to meet Ted her Husband. They were a very nice couple. So Sorry For the Family's Loss.
