MADISON - Sharon A. Owen, age 87, of Oregon, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024. She was born on Nov. 14, 1936, in Ontario, Wis., the daughter of Elmer and Margaret (Gavin) Fisher.
Sharon graduated from Reedsburg High School in 1955. She married Harold Owen on June 16, 1956, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg, Wis. Sharon worked and eventually retired as a fiscal clerk for the State of Wisconsin, Department of Corrections. She started her career as a clerk at the University of Wisconsin in bacteriology and zoology.
Sharon volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital for 23 years, wherever she was needed. She also volunteered with Aging: Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Wisconsin, driving people to all kinds of appointments. Sharon distributed communion at several sites, as well as being very active in her church.
After Harold and Sharon retired, they toured the country on their Harley Davidson. Branson, Mo., was a favorite destination. Some of the best days on the motorcycle started with Harold asking, "Where should we go today?"
Sharon is survived by her brother-in-law, Kermit Bekkum; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by father, Elmer Fisher; mother, Margaret “Hilda” Fisher; husband, Harold Owen; and sisters, Shirley (Ray) Thering, Veritia (Pat) Baggot, Patricia (Jack) Emery and Janet Bekkum.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLC CHURCH, 651 N. Main St., Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024, with Father Tom Kelley presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Monday. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Reedsburg at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church or your favorite charity in Sharon’s memory.
Sharon’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Sienna Crest Assisted Living and Heartland Hospice for the kind care she received.
