Obituary

OREGON - Susan E. Lindsley, age 82, of Oregon, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at Sienna Meadows. She was born on Dec. 21, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Larry and Margaret (Walter) May.


Following high school, Sue earned her teaching degree from Drake University. On Aug. 17, 1963, She married her high school sweetheart, Keith Lindsley and they headed to Ames, Iowa, where Sue taught while Keith earned his civil engineering degree.


In 1971, they moved to Oregon, Wis. They were blessed with two children, Beth and Brad. Sue taught at the Oregon Elementary schools for 22 years. She loved being a teacher. In retirement, Sue mentored a family from Kosovo. She wrote and had published a teacher’s manual for an elementary science program.


Sue was a member of Holy Mother of Consolation Catholic Church, the Red Hats Society and Town and Country Women’s Club.  She was a vivacious reader and loved tending to her flower gardens. She was an amazing and loving wife, mother and grandmother.


Susan is survived by husband, Keith; daughter, Beth Lindsley; son, Brad (Brittany) Lindsley; and grandchildren, Matt, Michael and Sarah Lindsley, and Ella and Chloe Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents.


A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held.

My favorite story about Sue is when she came to northern WI to spend a weekend with us. When they got here, she wanted me to take her out in the woods for a hike. Keith and my husband, Pete stayed behind as we went on our adventure taking along my dogs. She wanted me to point out deer trails to her so when we got to one I pointed it out to her. I then pointed out that the deer had already come by and started to knock down small trees to cover the trail and to make sure that any hunter would make a lot of noise trying to walk on the trail. The expression on her face was priceless. She had this awe look on it. I couldn't help myself and started to laugh and told her the truth. She just looked at me and said, "I was just going to ask you how the deer knew the time of year to do it." We always had a great time with her and Keith. She will be remembered with great fondness.

Our condolences to Brad and his family. Prayers to your family. My son Trace was one of Sue's caregivers at Sienna Medows. She would share stories with him from her teaching. It is a small world, as I knew Sue. too. As a child, I grew up in the neighborhood. I am Bruce and Donna (Harrms) Weber's daughter, Angela Dunn (Weber) All the fun friendships and childhood memories we made. Peace and love.

I taught in the classroom next to Sue in the Red Brick building. I was a new teacher at the time and Sue taught me so much. She always made me smile with her quick wit and great sense of humor. I miss those days. My prayers are with you.
