OREGON-Christopher H. "Chris" Brooks, age 80, of Oregon, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Nazareth House in Stoughton. He was born on Aug. 10, 1936, in Carthage, Ill., the son of Jesse and Ruby (Dean) Brooks. Chris enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1955-1958. He married Sondra "Sonnie" Mustain on Sept. 1, 1967. Chris was employed at International Paper, as national manager for over 40 years, retiring in 2005. Chris is survived by his wife, Sonnie; son, Chris (Holly) Brooks of San Francisco, Calif; daughter, Jessica (Dave) Reed of Madison; grandson, Cassidy; sister, Barbara Brooks; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters. Funeral services with masonic rites will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, with the Rev. Scott Sheets presiding, with a luncheon to follow. Burial will be at McKay Cemetery in Carthage, Ill., at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, with military honors. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Memorials may be gifted in Chris' name to Community Christ Church, Madison, Oregon Senior Center or Friends of Oregon Library. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com

Uncle Chris always had a good heart. My whole life growing up when I saw him at Christmases and in the summers he was always friendly and fun. May he rest in peace and his beautiful wife my aunt Sonnie continue to be surrounded by her wonderful friends and daughter and son-in-law! Jessica and Chris I am sorry you lost your dad but I know you also have many fond memories.

Just watched the video presentation. Very nice job. I especially loved the wedding photo of Uncle Chris and Aunt Sonnie. Cool to see young pictures of my Dad and Mom and Dad Brooks. Prayers are for a safe trip to the farm. I think everything will go well with Uncle Chris's final stop. We are finding a safe place for his body on this Earth but know he is smiling down from Heaven already. I am sure Robby, John Boy and my Dad were ready to meet him at the pearly gates along with many other friends and family members! Love, Lila and Bob Fritz

I decided to search for Chris, and am saddened to hear he passed away years ago. More to my dismay that his son, Brent H. Cooper, whom passed away in 2000, was never mentioned in his obituary, nor mentioning his grand daughter and great grandson.
