Obituary

MADISON - Elaine D. Wrobel, age 89, of Madison, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, at New Perspective Senior Living. She was born on June 22, 1935, in Little Chute, the daughter of John and Odelia (Verbeten) VanGompel.


Elaine graduated from Nicolet High School in 1954. She was united in marriage to Robert Wrobel on April 14, 1956, in Green Bay, Wis., and together they were blessed with three children.


Elaine lived a life of service. She dedicated her life to fostering newborn children and was an amazing mother to her kids and her foster kids. Elaine was an active and faithful member of her church, where she found joy in serving meals to the homeless; she was a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital, donating many of her knitting projects to them; and was very involved in Girl Scouts.


Elaine was an avid walker and enjoyed Irish dancing. She loved traveling and visiting her family and in her free time, she liked to knit and read.


Elaine is survived by her son, Dennis Wrobel; daughters, Kathy (Gerry) Dunn and Donna (David) Baty; granddaughters, Amy (Kyle) Hall, Andrea (Aaron) Baillargeon and Drew Baty; grandsons, Jason Wrobel and Connor Baty; and great-grandchildren, Avery Hall, Ashley Baillargeon and Colin Hall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents; sisters, Lucille Vandenburg, Grace Weiland, Joan Newhouse and Florence Vande Voort; and brothers, Kenneth Van Gompel, Earl Van Gompel and Joseph Van Gompel.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
