Obituary

WAUNAKEE - Helen Lydia Vieth, age 92, of Waunakee, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2024, at The Landings of Kaukauna. She was born on July 15, 1932, in North Freedom, the daughter of Al and Helen (Tibbetts) Jochman.


She was united in marriage to Leland Vieth on July 15, 1995, he was the center of her life. Helen worked as an activity coordinator for Central Wisconsin Center for 30 years, retiring in 1994.


Helen was a longtime member of Bashford United Methodist Church and the Alano Club. Her faith was very important to her along with the many friends she made at church and at the Alano Club. She was an avid reader, a favorite hobby above everything else. She also enjoyed doing needle crafts in her spare time and traveling when she was able.  


Helen is survived by her son, Robert (Katie) McCarten; daughter, Linda Kuhn; granddaughters, Lillian (Paul) Barton and Jolene Kent; brother, Jerry (Theda) Jochman; and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Vieth; a daughter and son; parents, Al and Helen; three sisters and two brothers; and numerous other relatives.


A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, 2024. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.

Helen was a grateful member of our Marvelous Marvel alanon group. I always listened when she shared because she helped me so much with her simple but straightforward way of speaking. She was one of the “original black belts” of alanon. Much love to Helen’s family!❤️

I was lucky enough to help care for and make her laugh in her final weeks. she really lit up the home and was kind and caring to every resident in the facility. She always came out in the morning to get her cereal and coffee with a smile on her face and always always used her manners and told us how great of a job we did. Going to miss her bright smile and laugh around the houses.❤️

Helen was at the Alano Club the day I came in. She was one of the squad of women that loved me until I learned to love myself. We attended big book studies and lunches together while traveling the road to happy destiny. Thank you Helen. I love you and am grateful to call you a sober sister.
