Obituary
MADISON - Donald E. Uphoff, age 78, of Madison, Wis., died on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, at the William. S. Middleton Veterans Hospital from bowel obstruction complications.
Donald was born in Madison, the son of Carl and Helen (Swan) Uphoff, and lived on Milwaukee Street and Esch Lane in his early years. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in combat in Vietnam from 1967-68.
Donald was a good son to his mother in the years following the early death of his father. He had the companionship of his long-time friend, Jennifer, for many years. He spent the last 12 years of his life at The Ridge (formerly Avalon) assisted living facility where he met and came to know the staff and many residents who enjoyed their contact with him. Throughout his life, he contended with mental health issues.
Donald is survived by his brother, David (Laura) Uphoff; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father in 1970; mother in 1993; and brother, Carl in 2019.
A private graveside service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
