Obituary
MADISON-Mary Ellen Tiedt, age 89, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Oakwood Village East. She was born on July 1, 1928, in Marshfield, the daughter of Jerome and Ruby (Hessing) Graff. Mary Ellen graduated from DeForest High School. She married Hugo Tiedt on Aug. 14, 1948. She was employed by Madison General Hospital, retiring in 1986. Her passion was quilting and was a member of Monona Quilt Club since 1997. She was also a charter member and volunteer at St. Dennis Catholic Church since 1957, as well as a member of the Madison Police Women's Auxiliary since 1953. Mary Ellen loved to cook and bake for family, especially angel food cakes. She enjoyed canning and gardening, especially taking care of her flowers. Mary Ellen loved her dog, Teddy Bear. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Mary Ellen is survived by her daughter, Denise (Byron) Lewis; sons, Dennis Tiedt and Jerry (Lori) Tiedt; grandsons, Andy (Bailey) Tiedt, Adam (Kristin) Tiedt and Jason (Meagan) Lewis; granddaughters, Nicole (Tyler) Hutchens and Cassie Lewis; eight great-grandchildren, Grayson, Wyatt, Dylan, Lorelei, Madilyn, Kaden, Everleigh and Kellan; sister, Doris (Tom) Burdick; brother, Ronald (Joyce) Graff; sister-in-law, Bea Graff; and many other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugo; brothers, William (Evelyn) Graff, James Graff, Jerome (Marge) Graff and Joseph (Isabele) Graff; daughter-in-law, Robin Tiedt; and sister, Dorothy (Norman) Anhalt. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Rd., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday April 4, 2018, with Father Randy Timmerman presiding. Burial will be held at Sacred Hearts Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Wednesday. Memorials may be made out to the family of Mary Ellen to be designated at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

This is for Mary Ellen's family. Mary Ellen was in our Water Aerobics class at MATC for years. We all loved her as she was such a delightful person. She talked so much about her husband and took such good care of him. We heard many nice things about her kids and grandkids. She also just loved their little dog "Teddy Bear". I hope the little pooch is doing well too after loosing both his favorite people. We all wish you the very best in this trying time especially with loosing both parents/grandparents within months. My name is Mary Bodendein and I am the MATC instructor. I know Mary Ellen had started going to the American Center in Sept. as she was not able to keep up with the class anymore as her heart grew weaker but we all missed her so much. Our entire class sends your family hugs and prayers.

I'm sorry to hear of Mary Ellen's passing. I have fond memories of her and Hugo. They used to visit my dad and mom frequently (Bill & Pat) when they went out for a walk. Sending wishes of peace and comfort.

Jan and I were so very sad to read of Mary Ellen's passing. We were so fortunate to get to know her, Hugo, the entire family and Teddy as we helped sell their home prior to moving to Oakwood. I continued to visit her at Oakwood, check in on the orchids I had given them as a gift (she was so good with plants) and bring a little something for Teddy. Please accept my sincere sympathy at the loss of your mom. She was a great friend to me. We sat at the same table at Monday Morning Quilters in Monona and I always looked forward to seeing her every week. While I know you don't know me, I do know you. She talked about you all the time. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren. She was a great example of a loving wife, mother and grandmother. I will miss her. Wanda Nelson
