Jerome Dean Syverud

MADISON/SUN PRAIRIE – Jerome “Jerry” Syverud, age 82, of Madison, passed away from a long illness on September 30, 2017, at Oak Park.  He was born on May 13, 1935, in Madison.  He married Maureen Strand on April 16, 1955, in Madison at Central Lutheran Church.  Jerry proudly served in the US Navy on the USS Wisconsin during the Korean War.  He retired from the military after 30 years of service in the Navy, Marines and Air National Guard. He worked for Royal Publishing as a Pressman for 19 years.  Upon retiring from Royal in 1984 he and Maureen moved to California.  They returned to Sun Prairie in 2011.  Jerry was a loving “Grandpa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid bowler. He was proud of his 299 game and had a ring to prove it!  Jerry loved his dogs, the Packers and the Badgers. Jerry is survived by his children, Teresa (Scott) Drew, Debbie (Randall) Rossi, Steve Syverud, Lisa (Alan) Maslowski and Lori (Mark) Campanella; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brother in law, Gary (Diana) Strand.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Maureen; grandson, Thomas Briggs; and brothers in law Herbert and James Strand.  Funeral services will be held at GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5701 Raymond Rd, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017.  Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until time of the service on Friday. Burial with military honors will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Oak Park for the love and care they gave to Jerry.
