Obituary
MADISON-Donald J. Soberg, age 87, of Madison, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017, at Attic Angels Place. He was born on Feb. 5, 1930, in Janesville, the son of Juell and Gudrund (Olson) Soberg. Don graduated from Madison East High School in 1947, he attended UW-Madison and Madison Business College. Don served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1954. He married Patricia Shager on Oct. 2, 1955, in Monroe. Don worked as Administrator of Trade and Consumer Protection for the State of Wisconsin and also had a long career with the State Department of Agriculture. He was an active member of the Masonic Supreme Counsel and deputy director of the State of Wisconsin Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a member of the York Rite Madison Chapter No. 4, R.A.M., Madison Council No. 3 R. & S. M. and Robert Macoy Commandery No. 3, K.T. Don was also commander in chief for the Madison Consistory, a member and past potentate of the Zor Shrine, member of Madison Lodge No. 5 F&AM and a member and past master of Daylight Lodge No. 242 F&AM. Don was instrumental in establishing the Children's Dyslexia Center-Madison. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church since 1945, where he ushered and sang in the choir for many years. Donald is survived by his god son, Mark Hoel. He was preceded in death by parents; his wife, Patricia; and his infant brother, Philip. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11:00 am, on Friday, August 11, 2017, with Pastor John Swanson presiding. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of the service on Friday.
