TAMARAC - Joyce Mamie Snell, age 94, of Tamarac, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Trust Bridge Hospice by the Sea. She was born on Jan. 24, 1928, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Edgar O. and Viola A. (Neuman) Guetzke.
Joyce graduated from West High School in Madison in 1946. She worked as a bookkeeper at Snell & Birrenkott Appliances on Atwood Avenue for many years, where a romance blossomed between her and Kenneth Snell. They were married in 1974. Ken passed away in 1997. Joyce truly loved living in Madison, but in 2012 she decided it was time to move to Florida to be closer to her son, Tim, and his family.
Joyce enjoyed playing the piano every day. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, and camping and hiking in her younger years. She was an antique collector, especially of dishes. Joyce adored cats and always had one in her life. She was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
Joyce is survived by her son, Tim (Laura) Stebbins; four grandchildren, Christina Stebbins, Melissa Stebbins, Blake Long and Matthew Long; great-grandchildren, Delano V. Bingham Jr. and Jaxson Long; brother, Dave (Connie) Guetzke; and her feline companion, Calle. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ken; son, Doug Stebbins; and brother, Rollo Guetzke.
A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
