Obituary
MADISON - Audrey L. (Romano) Simon, age 95, of Madison, passed away on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, at Oakwood Village East Seasons. She was born on April 25, 1926, in Christina Township, Wis., the daughter of Evan and Clara (Strommen) Norgord.
Audrey graduated from Madison East High School. She was united in marriage to Paul Romano in 1946 and together they had four children. Paul passed away in 1974. Audrey was blessed to find love again when she met Bob Simon, they married in 1975 and he passed away in 1993.
Audrey worked as a nurse’s aide at LaFollette High School. Prior to that she was a fingerprint analyst for the FBI and a cosmetologist. She was an active member of Oakwood Church and previously Bethel Lutheran Church. She was an avid reader and loved writing poetry. She also enjoyed listening to music, working crosswords, doing puzzles and playing card games, especially cribbage and euchre.
Audrey was very family-oriented and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When she was younger, she enjoyed traveling in the fifth wheel with her husband, Bob. Annually for 22 years, Audrey rented a gigantic family cabin for all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to gather where many wonderful memories were created. At the age of 80, she took her four children on a special two week vacation to Italy which will never be forgotten.
Audrey is survived by her daughters, Linda (Jerry) Heitzinger and Patti (Jim) Hanson; sons, Paul (Deb) Romano and Tom (Jayne) Romano; 10 grandchildren, Craig, Chris, Joe, Nate, Tony, Josh, Paula, Andy, Angie and Carly; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Pesch; brothers, Jim (Beth) Norgord and Richard (Joan) Norgord, and sister-in-law, Virginia Norgord. She is further survived by her many resident friends and staff at Oakwood East Seasons. In addition to her husbands, Paul and Bob, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Evan (Doris) Norgord and George Norgord; and sisters, Cathryn (Walter) Seeliger and Dorothy (Ted) Ellestad, and brother-in-law, Frank Pesch.
A special thanks to the wonderful staff at Oakwood Village East Seasons. You made our mother’s stay at Oakwood so enjoyable. She loved each and every one of you.
A memorial service will be held at OAKWOOD VILLAGE EAST, TREE OF LIFE CHAPEL, 5565 Tancho Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022. A private burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday, May 7, 2022. A luncheon and celebration of life will follow the service at the EAST SIDE CLUB, 3735 Monona Drive, Madison.
