Obituary
MADISON - Valerie Christine Sandmire, age 83, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022, at Kindred Hearts in Cottage Grove. She was born on July 20, 1938, in Sparta, Wis., and graduated from Tomah High School in 1957.
Over the years she was employed at Sears, JCP, Cubs and Goodwill. Valerie was a busy homemaker, raising four boys. She was an active member of Burke Lutheran Church. Val was known for her garage and craft sales, seamstress and quilting skills and charitable contributions. She enjoyed watching the Badgers, Packers and Bucks, talking on the phone and spending time with her family and many friends.
Valerie is survived by her children, Roy (Cheryl) Sandmire, Rick Sandmire and Jeff (Cindy) Sandmire; grandchildren, Tanner, Nicholas, Mariah and Kaytie; brothers, Robert (Carolyn) Olsen, Ray (Nan) Olsen and Gerald (Phyllis) Olsen; sister, Jane Emery; sister-in-law, Crystal Sandmire; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Auta “Art” Sandmire; parents, Hans “Pete” Christensen and Dorothy (Nelson) Olsen; stepfather, Atone Olsen; son, Nels Sandmire; and brothers, Nels Olsen and Glen Olsen.
A funeral service will be held at BURKE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5720 Portage Rd, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.

The family extends their deep appreciation to the staff of Kindred Hearts for their care of Valerie during the past seven months, and to Agrace HospiceCare for all their support and care these past two months.
