Edward Rustick

MONONA-Edward Rustick, age 98, passed away on Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, just two years short of his goal of 100. He was born on Sept. 7, 1918, the son of Alex and Mary Rustick, both Polish immigrants. Ed grew up in Northern Wisconsin on a farm near Summit Lake. He married the love of his life, Margaret Pauline Hill, on Dec. 30, 1941. Ed served in the Pacific Theater in WWII, spending two years in New Guinea. In civilian life, he worked in management for auto dealerships and in real estate. Ed's joy, however, was in his wife and family. He coached little league and took his children fishing and hunting. Ed always had a project, and he once built a boat in the basement. He was a prolific gardener and from his gifts, he provided vegetables, fish, and game for the family table. Ed is survived by four children, David, Robert, Daniel (Deborah) and Susan; four grandchildren, Dana (Brad) Rice, Denise Frisch, Danielle and Daniel Jr.; four great-grandchildren, Austin and Brandon Rice, and Payton and Matthew Frisch; a sister-in-law, Jean Hill; nephews, Ronald and Gene Rustick; nieces, Deborah Klatt and Rebecca Bowler; and extended family. Ed was preceded in death by his dearly beloved wife and soulmate, Margaret; and his cherished dog, Niki. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016, with Mary Klink presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
