Obituary
MADISON - Adeline M. Riemenschneider, age 100, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Oakwood East Meadows. She was born on December 25, 1923, in Litchfield, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Agnes (Rose) Riemenschneider.
Adeline spent almost the entirety of her century-long life in Wisconsin - most of that on the east side of Madison. She graduated from Madison East High School in 1941 and received
her bachelor’s degree in nursing from UW Madison in 1959. Adeline worked as a registered nurse for UW Hospital for 36 years.
Adeline was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Madison since 1927.
In the 1950s, Adeline built a modest cabin in Northern Wisconsin where she spent countless summers relaxing with loved ones. Adeline was never without her camera; she loved documenting the celebrations and activities of the people in her life.
In addition to picture-taking and cabin trips, caring for others was an integral part of who
Adeline was. Whether she was looking after patients at work, or tending to her parents, with
whom she lived. Over the decades, Adeline cultivated an expansive chosen family; all of whom she treated as her own kin. She loved chatting with them on the phone, through letters in the mail and, most of all, getting together in person to share food and conversation.
Adeline was, in all the most important ways, like an aunt, mother and grandmother to those in her chosen families - and she will be missed accordingly.
Adeline was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Agnes. She is survived by her close family friends: the Ramonts: Kim, Pam, Kris and Dave and the Olsons: Andy, Matthew and his daughter, Addy, Casey, Michael, Ian, Grady and Liam.
A funeral service will be held at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1021 Spaight St., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, with the Rev. Michael Erdman presiding. Burial will take place at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Reedsburg. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
