Obituary

MOUNT HOREB - Janet Louise Rolfsmeyer, age 78, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Ingleside Manor. She was born on Jan. 12, 1943, in Stoughton, the daughter of Thomas and Karoline (Lee) Lawrence. Janet graduated from Stoughton High School in 1961. She began working outside the home in 1973 in the kitchen at Head Start in Madison. In 1976, she took a new job as a cook for Karmenta Nursing Home in Madison. In 1978, Janet met a wonderful man, Carl Rolfsmeyer, while playing cards at the VFW Club on Highway CV in Madison. They began dating and were married on Oct. 7, 1978, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Madison. In 1980, Carl adopted all three of Janet’s children. In 1988, she began working for a tax service in Mount Horeb during tax season and worked full-time for Phillips Distribution Corporation beginning in 1989. By 1992, her children had all left home and wanting to keep busy, she started an evening job at WPS as a claim’s processor and remained there until 1999. In 1994, Janet left Phillips Distributing and started working at Household Finance in Madison until her retirement in 2005. This was her favorite job because she had a lot of customer contact. Janet and Carl enjoyed doing so many things together. They played euchre with their friends in each other’s homes, went dancing and attended performances in Wisconsin Dells and the Fireside Theatre in Fort Atkinson. They also enjoyed traveling and had lots of friends to enjoy activities with them. In August of 2020, Janet moved into Ingleside Manor in Mount Horeb. Dealing with the isolation of COVID-19 was difficult for her as she missed being in the company of friends and family. During the pandemic she kept in touch with Carl and her children and enjoyed working on her computer and reading. Janet is survived by her son, Ken (Vicki Bradford) Rolfsmeyer; daughter, Kristi Wells; step grandson, Dan (Deidre) Bradford; two step great-grandchildren; brother, John (Roxanne) Lawrence; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; and son, Robert “Bob” Rolfsmeyer. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; and son, Robert “Bob” Rolfsmeyer.
