MADISON / TOWN OF DUNN - Delma Jean (Zurian) Puphal, age 90, of Madison, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2024. She was born on Aug. 2, 1933, in Taycheedah, Wis., and adopted in 1939 by William “Bill” and Marie (Rogg) Zurian. Delma attended Dudgeon School in Madison and graduated from West High School with the class of 1951.


Delma married Donald Puphal on Nov. 6, 1966. He preceded her in death in March 1996. Delma lived in the Town of Dunn since 1967. Over the years she worked for General Casualty Company, John J. Flad and Associates, National Guardian Life, National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) and Wisconsin Early Childhood Association (WECA), from which she retired. She was a member of the Insurance Women of Madison, Women in Construction, and the Monona Senior Chorus.


Delma loved the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers, and the Milwaukee Brewers. She enjoyed watching NASCAR, and also loved sitting on her deck and looking out at Lake Waubesa.


Delma is survived by her son, Daniel Puphal; brother and sister-in-law, Pat (Beverly) Boyson of Myrtle Beach; Puphal niece and nephew, Rob and Jill, and their spouses and children in Pennsylvania; cousin, Sandy Rogg of Madison; and many wonderful neighbors and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marie; husband, Donald Puphal; brother, William (Bonnie); half-sister, Louise Hunt; mother and father-in-law, Rueben and Lillian Puphal; and brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Lee Puphal.

When I was in the USA for the first time, almost 40 years ago, I met her for the first time at a family picnic. And every time I visited Sandy, there was a warm invitation from her. They were always nice meetings. We, our relatives from Germany, will miss her too. In lovely memories. Markus and Angie

Delma was always so welcoming, friendly, and fun-loving. She was always "up on" current events and interesting to talk to. She had strong political opinions which she wasn't afraid to share! ☺️ She loved her home, and the lake, and Dan. My condolences to her family and Dan including her cousin, Sandy, on their loss. Peace be with you, Delma.

My memories of Delma go back to the beginning of my memory-my first toy (teddy bear);family holiday and birthday dinners; Delma drawing Bugs Bunny cartoons during church sermons to occupy me when I was young; attending my high school and college choral concerts; typing my college term papers; attending my college graduation; my participation in her marriage ceremony to Don; pontoon rides on the lake; our helping each other during medical events; sharing photos and stories about traveling that I did; and many discussions about current events and politics(local/national/international). She was fascinated about understanding the upcoming solar eclipse when we talked on Easter Sunday. She wanted to all the details reported to her after the event. I will miss her and miss talking about common memories we shared.

I remember when I was a kid, I would wonder between our house's, say "hi Delma" in my lower voice, it was a neighbor joke she laughed at.
