Obituary
MADISON-Charles William "Chuck" Polley, age 91, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on July 7, 1926, in Plainfield, Wis., the son of the Rev. Charles R. and Mabel (Dines) Polley. He spent many happy boyhood years in Dalton, Wis., moving to Madison in 1940. Chuck graduated from Madison East High School in 1944, attended UW-Madison and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was united in marriage to Doris E. Holtan on Feb. 20, 1948, by his father the Rev. Charles R. Polley. Chuck retired from Forest Products Lab in 1986 after 40 years of service. He was a member of Door Creek Church, on the governing board of Lake Waubesa Bible Camp, and volunteered at St. Mary's Hospital for many years. Chuck enjoyed sports both as a participant and spectator and golfed and bowled regularly with his church buddies. Chuck is survived by his sons, David (Deanna) of Fitchburg and Steven (Robin) of Verona; four grandchildren, Robert Polley of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Kristen (Troy) Bystol of Verona, Mike (Laurel ) Polley of Yorkville, Ill., and Chuck (Alli ) Polley of Verona; eleven great-grandchildren, Dylan, Jared, Payton, Parker, Morgan, Nicholas, Zoey, Emme, Evelyn, Sam and Jack; and sister, Wilma Haist. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris on March 22, 2015; twin sister, Ruth Gibson; and sister, Lilian Hull. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Rd., Fitchburg, at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, with the Rev. Cal Steiner presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 12 Noon until the time of the service on Friday. Memorials may be gifted in Charles' name to Lake Waubesa Bible Camp, 2851 Crescent Drive, McFarland, WI 53558-9628. Sympathies to the family. I have so many memories of the blessing both Chuck and Doris were to me. Always smiling. Sorry I can't be at the memorial service but will be there in thought.
