Palmer Jerome Peterson

MADISON- Palmer J. "Pete" Peterson, age 87, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017 at his home. He was born in West Prairie, Wis., on June 29, 1929. Palmer served eighteen months in the U.S. Army, stationed in West Germany. In 1950 he married Elvyria Knutson born on Oct. 19, 1931, and started their family of five, David (Janet), Susan (Henry) Rich, Duane (Sandra) and Don and Dan. Palmer dedicated 34 years working for Oscar Mayer, and after retirement, went on to work for Shaw Company. He was a member of VFW Post 8483 in Madison. Palmer enjoyed the outdoors, he especially loved gardening, berry picking, camping, fishing, deer hunting with his family, and in the spring, picking morel mushrooms. Palmer is survived by his five children; his sisters, Alice Engrav and Olene Lothen; four grandchildren, Melissa Peterson, Chad Peterson, Eric Peterson and Holly Peterson; four great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Anna Peterson; infant sister, Bertha; sisters, Evelyn and Elenora; and brothers, Loyd, Bernard, Clarence, Edwin and Melvin. A Celebration of Pete's Life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., on Friday, March 3, 2017. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Health United Hospice or the family.
