I played cards with Ellie for many years in a card club that she and I enjoyed with others. It was always a fun time with food and drinks. Rest in peace. Lois Beld

Years ago Ellie kept telling me she wanted a new rooster (Richard). I drew her name for our Christmas exchange so I obtained a young rooster from a local farmer. Christmas Day I put him in a wrapped box with plenty of air holes and added the box to the other wrapped gifts. Of course my only sister who will be late for her own funeral was 2 hours late. While we were waiting, Ellie’s box kept jumping and she asked if anyone saw it. Of course, no one did, she was imagining it. Finally it was time to open the gifts. Ellie’s had to be first. That poor rooster was punished enough! Because it was such a big box she couldn’t imagine what could possibly be in it. She tugged and tore the paper, not noticing the holes, and finally succeeded in getting the box open. She looked right at me and said, “Sandi, I already have one like this.” She lifted it out by the neck, the poor guy was dead. He probably died of fright. Not to go home empty handed Ellie and I took that chicken up to my kitchen and cleaned it and dressed it. Ellie told me, maybe I didn’t get a new rooster, but by golly I’m gonna have me some chicken and dumplings!” That was Ellie, making the best out of a not so good situation. I loved her with all my heart! She was one of a kind!!!❤️
