Obituary
MONONA - Iline V. (Pfister) Marking, 88 years old of Monona and Sun Prairie, died July 24, 2026. She was born to William Pfister Sr. and Elizabeth (Lischeron) Pfister on April 29, 1938, in Mount Horeb, at the Pfister homestead. Iline’s family moved around a lot when she was young, she moved seven times in eight years all in Iowa and Dane Counties in southern Wisconsin.
Two weeks after graduating from Madison West High School, Iline married Edward A. Marking Sr. at St. James Catholic Church on June 30, 1956, in Madison, and they were married for nearly 63 years.
Iline was employed at UnityPoint Health Meriter Hospital until her retirement in 2001; she also worked for nearly 50 years at Alliant Energy Center and met many performers. Iline and Ed volunteered as EMTs on the Monona Ambulance for 20+ years and volunteered to ride Med Flight on many holidays responding to emergency calls.
Iline was involved at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church for many years as a part of the St. Anne’s Society, greeting card ministry, and volunteered in the first aid tent at the annual festival. She was a member of the Monona Quilt Guild and loved to create her own crocheting inventions, sometimes they were great, other times, not so much. One of her most memorable moments came in 2001 when she and her dear friend, Faye, went on a hot air balloon ride and because of winds couldn’t land where they were supposed to, when they finally came down, they took out an electric pole or two on the north side of Madison.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 2019; parents; siblings, William II (Ruth) Pfister, Betty Rose Pfister, Rosetta (Rose) and Lester Gammeter Sr.; Ed’s parents, Martin and Margaret (Koch) Marking; and siblings-in-law, Jerome Marking, Jeannette (Werner) Annen and Rita (William) Kelly Sr.
