Robert M. Newton
December 30, 1930 - February 23, 2018
Obituary
VERONA-Robert Marshall Newton, age 87, resident of Verona, Wis. died of natural causes on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018. He was a long-term resident at Willow Point Memory Care in Verona, Wis. He was born on Dec. 30, 1930, in Lena, Wis. Robert graduated from high school in 1948, and went one year to university, but that wasn’t for him. He dropped out and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950, and served honorably and was discharged in 1953. He was deployed to the Korean Conflict, but as he used to laugh about it, he was in the Air Force Band assigned to a ship and never set foot on the ground of Korea. When he was discharged, he moved from Stevens Point to the Madison area and worked for Swift Meats, Borden Dairy as a milkman. He met his wife, Delores Cruckson and married her in 1958. Robert settled into a job that would last him 20 years, at the Jewel Tea Company. He delivered their products door to door (back when stores still did that). When he was in his mid-forties, he quit Jewel and purchased his own milk route. He was one of the last milkmen to work in Madison. He retired in 1992. His lifelong hobby was model trains, American Flyer. He wasn’t a good father, but he tried his best. Robert has two children that survive him, Russell Newton of Hayward, Calif., and Annette Craig of Glendale, Ariz.; and one grandson, Matthew Newton of Seattle, Wash. He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Newton; and his parents, Mary and Thurston. A memorial service is being held Thursday, March 1, 2018, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at VINTAGE BREWING COMPANY, 674 South Whitney Way, Madison. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com

I met Bob at Willow Pointe where I go to visit and spend time with the residents. Bob always joined the parties I organized, Christmas, New Years, Valentines Day and Mardi Gras. He didn't say much, but he would smile at me. He loved chocolate chip cookies. I will miss him
Linda
