Nancy Hanks Mueller

MADISON - Nancy Hanks Mueller, age 94, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on March 12, 1929, in Mineola, N.Y., the daughter of Kenneth Richmond and Frances (Comstock) Richmond.

Nancy graduated from Garden City (N.Y.) High School. She attended Ogantz Junior College in Pennsylvania as well as the Tobe-Coburn School of Fashion in New York. With her keen fashion sense, she earned the nickname “Fancy Nancy”. Nancy married Henry Mueller on Aug. 4, 1951, in Garden City, Long Island, N.Y.

Nancy was a stay-at-home mom, who enjoyed helping out at Frank Allis Elementary and Sennett Middle School when her kids were students. At one point, she won the “Lowest Pin” award on a bowling team! In 1995, she and Henry retired to Cherokee, where they were very active in golf and the morning exercise group. She and Henry enjoyed traveling all over the world together - Hawaii, Florida, Alaska, Italy, Germany, and other parts of Europe.  She especially enjoyed her time in Ireland at the Castles. They loved going on cruises, which allowed them to expand their friend base by meeting new people. Nancy was a loyal Packer and Badger fan. Friends enjoyed congregating at the Mueller household with a cold Miller shorty, and she was always ready to join the group in her red Trans Am.

Nancy truly loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, including helping to take care of the grandchildren through the years. Many special memories were made with the grandkids - swimming at the pool, going out to eat, and beautiful Christmas’s spent together. Nancy was a long-time member of St. Peter Catholic Church.

Nancy is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Ceil) Mueller, Kurt (Annette) Mueller and Richard Mueller; daughter, Joanna (Jim) Gehrmann; 12 grandchildren, Garrett (Erinn) Mueller, Taylor Mueller, Justine (Chris) Johnson, Carly (Taylor) Dabrowski, Alex Mueller, Andrew Mueller, Bailey (Sam) Schwiebert, LTJG Max Henry (Meghan) Gehrmann, Mallory Hanks (Alex Crandall) Gehrmann, Molly Gehrmann, Fallon Mueller, Kayla (Tadd) Wyatt; eight great-grandchildren: Drew, Brody, Isla, Cole, Cam, Isabel, Kade, Emerson Henry, one on the way, Kinsleigh and Karity; sister-in-laws, Madeline Mueller and Joan Knobel; many nieces and nephews who she was a “favorite aunt” to; plus other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry Mueller Jr.; son, Henry "Hank" Mueller III; sisters, Patricia (Thomas) Gorman (who passed away in Nov 2022) and Gail Matthews; and brother, Kenneth Richmond.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNDERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, with Father Brian Wilk presiding.  Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted to Father H.A.N.K scholarship fund at St. Robert Parish in Shorewood Wis. Special thanks to Eden Vista staff, Rebecca and Carmen with Agrace Hospice Home Care, Vicki Ryan, the student nurses and staff at Agrace HospiceCare Inpatient Center, Fitchburg for their care and support of Nancy. Nancy‘s family would also like to thank  Gunderson Funeral Home, especially Pete Gunderson, Kasey Wilson and Samantha Rinehart for the comfort and care they provided the family at mom’s loss.
