Jean W. Meyer

MADISON- Jean W. Meyer, age 93, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Serenity Homes in DeForest. She was born on July 14, 1924, in Richland County, the daughter of Frank and Susie (Fay) Elmer. Jean married Paul Wopat on June 10, 1941, he preceded her in death in 1975. She was later united in marriage to Walter Meyer on July 14, 2001. Jean had a bright personality and dedicated work ethic. She found great success as an administrative assistant for many years until her retirement. Jean was always on the go, with many aspirations and talents, she found thrilling new experiences. Always the historian, she joined the Daughters of the Revolution. Jean was fascinated to learn so much about her background, together her and fellow members were able to trace their heritage back to John Adams. Jean wasn’t afraid to express the comedian in her, as a professional clown, she performed for many years as Jean-o the Clown. She loved to entertain the children at parties and picnics. Her love for her family was devout and deep, Jean lived each day fully for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean is survived by her daughters, Judi (Bill) A. Haefner and Kathleen (Doug Pollard) Wopat; and brother, Duane (Nancy) Elmers. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; son, Paul Wopat; four brothers, Fay Elmer, Willard Elmer, Roy Elmer and Paul Elmer; sister, Ruth Markee; and first husband, Paul Wopat. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr. Madison, at 6 p.m., on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Burial will be held at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hillsboro, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
