DEFOREST- Sandra Jean McCann, age 79, of DeForest, passed away on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, at Legacy of DeForest. She was born on March 23, 1944, in Madison, the daughter of Carl and Marie (Hagen) Derke.


Sandra graduated from Madison East High School in 1962. She married William McCann on Feb. 12, 1966, in Madison. Sandra worked for the State of Wisconsin in Workforce Development for nearly 20 years. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Waunakee.


Sandra loved playing Bingo and watching movies, but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.


Sandra is survived by her husband, William; three sons, Scott McCann, Joel (Kelley) McCann and Kevin (Christi) McCann; daughter, Rebecca Jaramillo; ten grandchildren, Alisha (Dan) McCann, Alexandria (Nate) McCann, Nikole Jaramillo, Carson McCann, Sam Jaramillo, Aaron McCann, Nolan McCann, Owen (Melissa) McCann, Ian Jaramillo and Ethan Jaramillo; two great -grandchildren, Noah Plath and Waylon Plath; and brothers, Michael (Charlene) Derke and Dennis (Lin) Derke. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Marie; and brothers, Thomas Derke and Ronald Derke.


A funeral service will be held at PEACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 701 S. Century Ave., Waunakee, at 12 noon on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, with the Rev. Karen Locken presiding. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.

My condolences to the McCann family. My family recently got to know Sandy & Bill as my mom, Diane was a resident of the Legacy. While having someone at the Legacy was difficult, Mom was fortunate to be share a dining table with Sandy. They both loved to sing, laugh and share a special language that only the two of them could understand. They both shared their love for chocolate. I was so sorry to read of Sandy's passing. She cared for our son Jimmy for the first 4 years of his life. Jimmy loved "going to Sandy's" and we felt good having him spend his days in her care. Sandy was so kind and loving, and we felt lucky to have found her. She always had a smile on her face, which couldn't have been easy all the time, given the rigors of childcare! We have many fond memories of Sandy and hope that the many memories you have of her will sustain you going forward. Anne and Jim Voxman
