Obituary
MADISON - Beverly (Wick) Lowe, age 91, died December 5, 2021. She was born in Clintonville, WI to Stanley and Lucille Wick. Bev was known for her honest approach, care for others, sense of humor and love of music. She readily lent a hand or an ear to those in need. Bev was a gifted singer and began vocal training at age 11. She performed and competed throughout her life earning awards, invitations to sing at private and business events, made a record and sang in a film. Bev attended UW Madison to pursue a BS in Occupational Therapy. She continued her study of music and appeared in several choral and theatrical groups. While at UW, she met the baseball captain, Chick Lowe, on a blind date and they married in August of 1950. Bev graduated with her BS in 1952. After raising her family, she began her 25 year career as a Psychiatric OT at Methodist, Madison General and Meriter Hospitals where she designed therapeutic programs and mentored OT and Psych students while working with in-patient adolescents and adults. Bev was a guest lecturer at various colleges and provided in-service trainings to professional and community groups. Music and singing were a constant throughout her life. Bev was in multiple choirs at a time and was always found in a choir robe on Sunday mornings. Bev and Chick were avid Badger and Packer fans, rarely missing a game. They enjoyed camping and traveling, making many friends along the way. They hosted international teachers and missionaries in their home. Once retired, they traded in their camper for a permanent trailer on a property known as “The Bog”. Bev enjoyed acting with her husband in TV commercials, singing in barbershop quartets and show choirs, and took great pride in being the only woman in the Handymen’s Club at Oakwood. Bev held firm to family ties as they, along with her faith, were very important. She was a member of Burke Lutheran Church and a charter member of Lake Edge Lutheran Church. Bev is survived by her brother, Dale Wick; son, David; daughters, Lynda (Todd) Birkel, Barbara (John) Powless, Marcie (Doug) Quinn; grandchildren, Deandra Bieneman, Trevor and Jarod Powless, Courtney and Holly Quinn, and Juliet Trieloff. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Chick.
A Memorial Service will be held at Burke Lutheran Church, 5720 Portage Rd., Madison at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, March 18, with a visitation from 1:00 - 2:30. Memorials may be made to Burke Lutheran Church. The family thanks the Oakwood Knoll staff who cared for Bev these past 9 years, Agrace Hospice and special friends, Dave and Lucy Wisner, whose support kept Bev singing until Alzheimer’s silenced her beautiful voice. Mom, we love you so hard!
