Ione Kuehl

MADISON - Ione W. Kuehl, age 95, beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Oakwood Village-Meadows. She was born on Nov. 2, 1927, in Lowell, Wis., the daughter of Emil and Hertha (Krueger) Lee. She was a tomboy who enjoyed playing softball and was known as "Girlie."

lone married Gilbert “Gil” Kuehl on June 14, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Reeseville, Wis.  During Gilbert’s U.S. Air Force military career, Ione and Gilbert raised their family and were stationed at various Air Force bases in the United States and Germany.

After Gil retired and they settled in Columbus, Wis., lone worked at the Columbus Hospital for many years. In 1983, they moved to Madison to be closer to family. lone was an avid collector, loved roses and enjoyed watching the Packers. But her greatest joy was spending time with her children and granddaughters.

Ione is survived by her sons, Ralph (Janet), Al (Annette) and Paul; and two granddaughters, Marcie Kuehl and Alexa Kuehl (John Seckman). She is further survived by her brother, Wayne (Evelyn); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Hertha; husband, Gil; brothers, Melvin, Ralph, Kenneth and Gerald; and sisters, Isabel Schultz and JoAnn Kasperson.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Friday, April 28, 2023. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
