Obituary
MADISON - Frank Koning, age 91, of Madison, passed away on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, at Heritage Monona. He was born on Feb. 28, 1931, in Worthington, Minn., the son of Egbert and Mary (Dammer) Koning.
Frank enlisted in the U.S. Navy in April of 1948 and served in the Korean War on the destroyer, Arnold J. Isbell. Later he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he served in the Wisconsin Air National Guard, retiring after 38 years of military service with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.
Frank married Kathleen Kraus on April 4, 1959, in Ridgeway. He was a life member of the VFW Post No. 7591. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a huge lover of dogs.
Frank is survived by his daughters, Vicky (Jim) Sullivan and Mary Ann (Kerry) Grow; four grandchildren, Blair Sullivan (Luke) Michalski, Danny Sullivan, Hannah (Matt) Jahn and Haley Grow; and three great-grandchildren, Ella Jahn, Bennett Jahn, and Charlie Michalski. He was preceded in death by wife; parents; four brothers, Severt Koning, Egbert Koning, Jr., John Koning and Meno Koning; and sister, Jenny Larsen.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023. The burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens with full military honors. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday.
