Obituary

MONONA - Lois Koenig, 99, passed away on October 4, 2026, from complications of a stroke that occurred on August 15th. She was born February 4, 1927, the daughter of Palmer and Agnes Granlund in Blair, WI. She grew up with two sisters and a brother, and they remained close throughout their lives.

Later, Lois became a lifelong resident of Monona when she met and later married Raymond E. Koenig. Lois took great pride in being a homemaker and created a warm and welcoming home for those she loved. She was able to live at home independently with assistance and support from friends, neighbors, and many caregivers.

Faith was an important part of Lois’s life. She was a longtime member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Monona, as well as Bethel Lutheran Church, where she found friendship, fellowship and spiritual strength throughout the years.

Lois enjoyed staying active and was an accomplished golfer who loved both playing the game and watching it. She participated in golf and bowling leagues and enjoyed the friendships that came with them. As an avid Wisconsin sports fan, she always made sure she was able to tune in and watch the game on tv. She was also a devoted animal lover, with a special fondness for dogs and birds.

Above all, Lois treasured her family and friends. She loved being a mother and grandmother and especially enjoyed spending time with the people who meant the most to her. Her kindness, warmth and love for others will be remembered by all who knew her.

Lois is survived by her daughter, Karla Koenig; son, Ray T. Koenig; son-in-law, Wally Hansen; grandchildren, Nolan and Ella; her golf buddies, Shirley S., Marian P. and Mary R.; and dear friend, Katy K. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; son, Todd; daughter, Kim; and many family members and lifelong friends.

A special thank you to all of Lois’s neighbors, especially Barb and Dan Minor, for their kindness and compassion while Lois was living independently at home. They treated her like family, and their friendship meant so much to Lois and her family. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all staff members at Capitol Lakes Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Courtyard Memory Care at Fitchburg, and Agrace Hospice for going above and beyond with their compassion and dedication to excellent care.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make memorial donations to a charity of your choice in Lois’s memory. Respecting her wishes, there will be a private graveside service at a later date.
